Cookie Policy
What cookies Prep Brook uses, who sets them, how long they last, and how to switch them off.
Last updated October 2, 2026
In plain words
- We use a small number of cookies for security, analytics, and comment preferences.
- Amazon may set its own cookie when you click a product link, so we can earn a commission.
- No cookie on Prep Brook is used to sell your data or to follow you around the web with ads.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They help a site remember things, like whether you have visited before. Similar tools, such as local storage and tracking pixels, work in a similar way, so this policy covers them too.
First-party cookies are set by prepbrook.com. Third-party cookies are set by another company, such as Google or Amazon.
Cookies we use
Here is a clear list of the cookie types you may meet on Prep Brook:
| Type | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential and security | Prep Brook and our hosting and security providers | Keeps the site stable, blocks spam and bad bots, and protects forms | From the end of your visit up to one day |
| Comment preferences | WordPress (Prep Brook) | Remembers your name and email if you tick the box when leaving a comment | Up to about one year |
| Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) | Google Analytics | Counts visits and shows which guides people find useful | Up to two years |
| Affiliate tracking | Amazon, on amazon.com | Records that you arrived from a Prep Brook link, so we can earn a commission | Set and controlled by Amazon |
Good to know
Amazon generally credits a purchase to us if you buy within 24 hours of clicking our link, or within 89 days for items you added to your cart during that visit. Amazon sets these rules, not us, and the price you pay is the same either way.
Why we use them
- To keep things running: security cookies help us fight spam and attacks.
- To improve our guides: analytics tell us which pages answer questions well and which need a refresh.
- To keep the site free: affiliate cookies let us earn a commission, which pays for research and writing.
Third-party cookies
Google and Amazon set and control their own cookies under their own policies. We do not run display ads, and we do not let ad networks track you on our pages. When you leave Prep Brook for a store, that store’s cookie rules apply.
How to manage or turn off cookies
You are in control. Most browsers let you block, delete, or get warned about cookies:
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings, then Privacy, then Prevent cross-site tracking
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Enhanced Tracking Protection
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions
To block Google Analytics everywhere, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. Prep Brook also honors the Global Privacy Control signal. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading any guide, though comment preferences will not be saved.
Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a tool that uses cookies, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle the information cookies collect.
